Baltimore pier was bustling with excitement on Sunday Morning (June 27th) as set dancers from Schull, Skibbereen & surrounding areas boarded the ferry (An Cailin Oir) for their annual visit to Cape Clear Island.

It was a lovely sunny day & a great boat trip, arriving at Cape Clear at midday. After refreshments in the local hostelry, the set dancing started at 1.00pm.
The sets were called by Bert & Annie Moran, followed by instrumental music & song.

We took breaks from the dancing to take walks to the beach & up the steep hill to St. Kieran’s church, which was built in the 12th century and where the first mass in Ireland is reputed to have been held.

All in all it was a wonderful fun packed day. Too soon it was time to return to the mainland on the 6.00pm ferry. We had a sing-song & flute playing while sailing into Baltimore, to end a perfect day.
